Random Musings

Today’s blog post doesn’t really have an overarching topic like you would expect from me. I just wanted to discuss a few things that I have been up to, some things that interest me, and pose a few questions for all of you.

First and foremost, progress continues to move along nicely on my current work-in-progress, A Night of Knives. I am taking some extra time to polish chapters as I go, in hopes of reducing the number of drafts I will have to write, but we will see how that pans out. I am currently somewhere between 10-15% finished with the first draft, so a little further along than the last progress update I gave.

In the realm of video games, my other great passion, I am eagerly awaiting the release of Starfield in a couple weeks. Armored Core VI and Immortals of Aveum launch soon as well, so I will be busy with games for quite some time. I still haven’t even finished Baldur’s Gate 3. Sigh. Too many games and not enough time. What a wonderful problem to have.

I have also been seeing unexpected growth on social media platforms. We have nearly hit 1,000 followers on TikTok (who knew Booktok was so big?) so I will be eligible to start livestreaming there, among other things, soon. On Instagram growth is slower but still going strong at 150 followers and counting. We have more than 50,000 views across both platforms and I never would have imagined that in just the first month I would have reached so many people. Thank you all so much for spending your time reading my blog posts, watching my videos, and interacting with me online. Books really do bring people together.

Don’t think I’m going to stop at Booktok and Bookstagram though. There’s still Booktube (YouTube) to conquer, and I plan on launching a podcast in the near future with other independent authors to discuss books, interview authors, provide industry tips and writing advice, and more. Still working on the details of that and gauging interest, but rest assured more details will come in due time. In the meantime, let me know what you think of the idea of the podcast in my social media polls. Then there’s Twitch, where I hope to start livestreaming soon (what do you call the book corner of Twitch?). Lots to do. Lots to do.

In the realm of reading I am presently listening to the audiobook of The Justice of Kings, by Richard Swan, and am blown away. One of my favorite books of the year by far. I am also looking for my Powder Mage trilogy paperbacks, which seem to have been lost when I moved a few months ago. An author friend recommended that I read them but I may need to bite the bullet and drive to Barnes and Noble to pick up another copy.

Anyway, that’s just a little bit of what’s been going on in my world and what to expect from me in the coming weeks. Hope you all are doing well and burning through your TBRs. I myself am moving slowly but making progress, so I can’t complain.

Until next time. Happy reading.

~Brandon
